Meet the Teachers

  • Mrs. Cheryl

I am Mrs. Cheryl and I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I love my little two-year-olds and treat each student as their own individual, unique, special self. I love teaching them routine, social skills, and giving them the groundwork that will provide them with all they need to be successful in school. There is nothing I enjoy more than getting to know my students and their families and getting to see them grow and learn.

I retired as an assistant at Southwood where I taught for 23 years. In my last year there, I was awarded Teacher’s Assistant of the Year. This is my fourth year at Davidson Preschool and our classroom is like a little family. In our classroom, we make academic leaps, but most importantly, we build relationships and enjoy coming to class every single day.

The Curriculum

We work on letters and numbers everyday by means of introduction and repetition. We begin teaching our students letters by introducing a letter a week. We continue each week by adding a new letter and repeating previous letters already introduced. This helps create the scaffolding needed for our students to have an easier time recognizing, writting, and reading in later years. We work on our shapes and colors daily during circle time as well as our numbers while we count the days on our classroom calender. Our classroom is set up to encourage self-motivated play as well as sharing and taking turns. Each day we focus on a different subject matter including science, art, math, and music. We read daily and encourage our students to read on their own with reading time that increases as our students grow. Our lessons are filled with crafts that encourage fine motor skills as well as academics. We have a hands-on approach that allows our students to have fun while learning!

We use Letterland to help support our academic goals and Himama to stay connected with our families!
